LAYTON -- Utah is the state of stay-at-home moms, and in tough economic times, many of them are looking for ways to supplement their family income.

A U.S. Census Bureau report lists Utah tied with Arizona for having the lowest percentage of children with both parents in the workforce. The report shows 53 percent of Utah children have at least one parent at home.

How To Make Extra Money In School: Part 2

www.eventmakeupartist.com

Working in conventional minimum wage job is not the correct environment for anyone juggling other more important things. You will have to work full time to make any decent amount of money and you have to answer to a boss, who’s only priority is the success of the business.

Once you accept that merely finding a job won’t give you what you are looking for you will be able to see the beauty in the balance that working for yourself provides.
There is no need for ambiguous internet schemes or multi-level marketing, you would be better off blowing your money at casino. So how can you work for self legitimately and make money?

Look at the service industry. Learn a skill and provide it for pre-decided rate. Make yourself unique, indispensable. With a marketable skill you become an asset to those who need your services. There are lots of skills out there that people charge really great money for, you need to make sure that the one for you can be acquired to suite your life. Meaning, for most people, looking to pay for school, hair cutting, although can make great money, takes too much time and money to become licensed. You want to look to an industry that makes it relatively easy to join.
For example, wedding photographers. Technically, if you were to practice enough and could show a good portfolio you are qualified to work. The same goes for makeup artists. You could practice and refine your skill to be able to work at weddings or private functions. With these kinds of skills you can create a work schedule to suit your life and never a job that simply isn’t profitable to you. Once you acquire the right skill set for you, you will be able to organize your life so that you are only working a few days a week and can devote the rest of your time to being a student.

Don’t let a lack of money keep you from school or allow work to interrupt your student experience. Those stories about people who worked full time, went to school full time, and still excelled at both make you think, although an accomplishment, how did they have time to live? What is the point of working so hard for something if you don’t allow yourself to enjoy it? These admired successes make me wonder if these people are as smart as they are perceived. With a little creativity they could have put themselves through school and manipulated their schedules to actually enjoy the learning process.

How To Make Extra Money In School: Part 1

The Event Makeup Artist

Most college students don’t have wealthy parents to put them trough school. So how do they all manage financially?
For years extended education was only for those with enough resources to afford it. Now universities are open and popular amongst the masses, but are still way too expensive for the average Joe. The common solution for this problem is to take out loans. But this is still not feasible for the majority of people since they themselves, or their families, don’t have good enough credit to take out a loan. If you have no co-signer, you have no loan. Now there is only one other alternative, work.
There is something touching and admirable about the successful doctor who put herself though medical school working nights as a waitress, or the film maker who worked fulltime at a car wash to pay for film school. Although these stories are testaments to power of strong will and determination there still seems to be an underlying problem. Working so many hours and detracting your focus from your academics just so you can pay for them seems to be undermining your first priority, school. What is the point of working so hard to put yourself through school if you are too frazzled and stretched so thin that you can’t even fully appreciate what the learning environment has to offer?

I am not telling anyone to quit school or stop working, but there is a balance. You can go to school and still work, but since school is the first and most important priority your work should be flexible and cater to your academic schedule. Even though this may seem like a lot to ask it is not impossible, you just have to start thinking differently.

How Single Parents Can Use Makeup To Make Them Money:Part 1

Parenting is a hard enough job for two people let alone one. And with out a second income single parents end up working harder and longer to support their children, making it difficult to find time to spend with their families that they’re working so hard for in the first place. When it comes to conventional jobs there will always be a point of contention between fulfilling your work duties and those of your personal life. Bosses will always have the success of the business as their number one priority and trying to combine that with your family priorities only adds to your stress and pressure.

There is a way around this constant conflict of interests, eliminate the boss. Take the person with a separate set of goals in your life out of the picture. This may sound ideal and impossible, but it’s not. Using a skill like makeup application will help you realize the ease in which you can be your own boss.

How to Find Clients for Your Beauty Business: Part 4

Beyond this you can offer deals to potential clients as well to make your services more enticing. So in an ad or business card you can offer a very low rate per person but require a minimum number of people, a group rate to be split. So instead of paying $400 for a makeup artist, a customer can pay only $200 but has to bring along 10 other people at the same price. For women attending a family wedding they will easily put together a large group, and you’ve just made over $2,000 in one day instead of $400 from one.

Plus, you don’t want to forget that the best kind of advertising is word of mouth and once you do a whole group of women’s makeup wonderfully they will all save your number for the next time and tell all their friends. If 10 women each tell 2 friends about your services you know have 20 more people who know about your services.

How to Find Clients for Your Beauty Business: Part 3

Here is where you have two options (for best success do both, if possible). First, you want to find where the above businesses are advertising. How are they finding their clients? Then, advertise you makeup business in the same place. “Want to look flawless on your wedding day? Call…” Remember to research smaller businesses because they will have a lower budget for advertising compared to large corporations and you will be more likely to be able to afford similar advertising means.

The second option is to approach the business owners/managers themselves. Set up a deal. Either, offer them a finders fee for each client they send your way, or tell them to offer your services to their clients and you will do the same to yours. You both find each other clients from your existing base.

How to Find Clients for Your Beauty Business: Part 2

Let’s say, for our purposes, you apply beauty makeup really well. You know how to use makeup to accent women’s natural beauty and give them flawless coverage. Now, you can picture who would want your product. Women with an event that are going to want to look their best at, for example brides, bridal parties, girls going to prom, bar/bat mitzvahs, women who go to lots of banquets.

Once you know who would want your services then you can approach them where they already are. The one thing that all these women have in common is that they are either throwing or attending a party. First and for most, you are going to have to do some research. Where do people throwing or attending parties go? If I’m throwing a large party I will most likely have table centerpieces of flowers and if attending a gathering I may want to bring flowers. This leads me to florists, women who have functions to attend are likely to be here. With the same train of thought think of other businesses like caterers, party planners, photographers, videographers, dress makers, halls, churches, synagogues… These are all people or places that deal with the hosts and guests of special events daily.

How to Find Clients for Your Beauty Business: Part 1

Business is about sales, getting more people to pay for what you offer them. And, finding more clients in any business can be very tricky. But, looking at it simply, all a business owner has to do is identify who is the most likely person to use his services and then attract them based on where they already socialize.

For a more specific example, look at beauty businesses. When providing a personalized service like hair design, makeup application, skin care… there are two kinds of beauty businesses. One is a store front or a location where people can walk in. The second is where business is conducted privately and through appointments only. Although the first business has the advantage of walk-in customers, this isn’t enough. Both beauty service businesses will have to actively find clients.

So say you’re a makeup artist that works at private functions, such as weddings, and work by appointment only, how do you gain clients?
Well beyond the obvious, having a good portfolio, complimentary testimonials… you need to figure out who your ideal customer is.
What do you do really well? What’s your style?

Become A Traveling Makeup Artist:Part 3

The other way you can travel through working as a makeup artist is by finding a traveling client. There are lots of people who are constantly traveling for their jobs, you want to find someone who is in the public eye enough to require your services. People like DJ’s, dancers, singers, actors, radio personalities, TV personalities, politicians… Your chances of finding Britney Spears as your next client are slim, but don’t forget that every geographical area has their own little regional celebrities climbing the fame ladder. Find local TV hosts, local talents, local politicians. All these people have riders that they can add you to. Riders are lists of requirements that they have before someone books them. So a DJ may say that if someone wants to book her for an out of town gig they will also have to pay for an assistant and first class air fare and any thing else. You can easily get yourself onto someone’s rider because the person booking pays.

Become A Traveling Makeup Artist: Part 2

Become A Traveling Makeup Artist: Part 2

There are two types of businesses you want to approach. The first are ones in or around your area. These are local businesses that handle out of town wedding arranging. These are a great source because the bride will be able to meet with you before the wedding and that will be a great comfort and selling point. The second businesses are the ones on location. Do some research to find popular places to get married then contact the business around there that may handle any part of the wedding arrangements. Look for hotels, party planners, caterers, photographers, djs, musicians, table/chair/table cloth rentals… You’re not looking for things like sandals packages. You want couples planning their own location wedding and will therefore utilize these small businesses.

Now if you don’t believe that a bride will pay for you to travel to her wedding just to do her makeup you’re wrong. Think of it as an artist being commissioned to do a painting. In art it is much more complicated than simply knowing a technique, it is about the artist’s style and natural ability. Along the same lines, a bride will pay to ensure that someone she trusts to help her look her best on her big day to be there. You are being commissioned as an artist
